En esta ocasión nos trasladamos a Texas para hablar con Jeff Dutton, autor del hit, Carcassonne Tonight. No es la banda sonora de ningún spot de televisión ni lo está rompiendo en la radio, pero trata sobre Carcassonne y nos encanta.

This time we moved to Texas to talk with Jeff Dutton, author of the hit, Carcassonne Tonight. It is not the soundtrack of any television spot nor is breaking on the radio, but it is about Carcassonne and we love it.

When and how did you know Carcassonne?

Hace un año andaba con las Magic pero no conseguía que mi esposa jugara conmigo. Entonces fui a una tienda de juegos y pregunté por un juego que pudiera hacer que mi esposa jugara conmigo. El chico dijo Carcassonne y me lo llevé. ¡Y fue cierto! Mi esposa jugó.

I started goofing around with Magic the Gathering a year or so ago, but I couldn't get my wife to play it with me. I went to the game store and asked the guy what game my wife would play with me. He said Carcassonne, so I picked it up. It's true! She will play it!

Why do you think that Carcassonne has so many fans?

Porque es un juego sencillo en su concepto pero que permite desarrollar estrategias según te haces más experto. Los adultos pueden jugar con sus hijos y tener casi la misma diversión que con un grupo competitivo. Y eso unido a la gran cantidad de expansiones que existen hace que tenga una jugabilidad ilimitada.

Because it is a very simple game in concept that allows for you to develop strategy as you get more advanced. Adults can play with their children and have nearly the same fun as a group of people being extremely competitive. Join that with the ridiculous amount of expansions, and you get near unlimited playability.

You have created a song based on this board game and many will wonder, why make a song about Carcassonne?

Sólo pensé que sería divertido. Soy un gran fan de Weird Al, y siempre estoy buscando una buena parodia. "Carcassonne" y "Take Me Home" era demasiado perfecto como para dejarlo pasar.

I just thought it would be fun/funny. I'm a big Weird Al fan, and I am always looking for a good parody. "Carcassonne" and "Take Me Home" were just too perfect to pass up.

Sinceramente, no sé la razón. Pero siempre me ha gustado la música de los 80 y Take Me Home Tonight es una gran canción.

Honestly, I don't know why, but I've always loves 80s music, and it just fit. Take Me Home Tonight is a sweet song!

How was the work of this video? How long does it take you to make it?

Me llevó probablemente un mes desde la idea a terminar la canción. Después fueron unos nueve meses hasta que estuvo en Zman's website. Les envié la canción, les pregunté si les gustaba, dijeron que sí... y el resto es historia.

It took me probably a month from conception to finished song, and then it took about 9 months to get it up on Zman's website. I sent it to them and asked if they liked it. They said yes, and the rest is history.

And finally, in the song you appoint to Xbox. Do you think that the boards games will survive to the videogames?

No creo que ninguno de ellos dañe al otro. A la gente que le gusta el juego de mesa, Carcassonne, podría llevarse el juego para la Xbox cuando no tienen amigos con los que jugar pero también creo que aquellos que se descargan el juego para la Xbox estarían interesados en el juego de mesa. ¡Es SINERGIA!

I don't think either will hurt the other. People who love Carcassonne the board game might pick up the Xbox game to play when they don't have friends around, but I also think those who download the XBox version will be interested to try the board game. That's SYNERGY!
